This is an exciting year for York University’s Department of Anthropology. We are looking forward to hosting the CASCA conference in late April 2014, which is shaping up to be an innovative event showcasing work at the leading edge of our discipline. But that is not all! In June 2013, the first cohort of York Anthropology’s newly founded methods field school flew to Athens, Greece, for an intensive month of learning opportunities. It was there, while enjoying a frappé in the much-appreciated shade of a café patio, that grew the idea to provide a publication platform for students beginning their engagement with anthropology. In this light, and in the spirit of the disciplinary leadership demonstrated by our department, it is our pleasure to officially launch and circulate the first call for papers of Contingent Horizons: The York University Student Journal of Anthropology.

While the first volume of Contingent Horizons is set to be published in late April 2014, we invite you to regularly visit this website for, as an online journal, it will not only host students’ scholarly works but also encourage healthy discussion within York’s academic community and beyond.

Last but not least, we would like to thank Yana Pasternak, and professors Othon Alexandrakis and Albert Schrauwers for their unconditional support in this early endeavour.

Yours sincerely,
